In Catullus 2 (lines 1 to 10), Catullus opened up with the narrator describes his lover, Lesbia, and her relationship with her pet sparrow. Then it closes with the narrator wishing to play with the sparrow. The climax of the first ten lines was definitely the last two lines. This is when Catullus had this desire wish to play with the sparrow as his love does.
I went and did a little research on my own to see what a bird symbolized back when Catullus wrote this. I found out that a bird was a common love gift. Also Catullus could of used the sparrow as an erotic symbol.
I personally feel that this was just a gift that Lesbia received from Catullus, possible it was from Catullus or not, and he was just writing about how she loved and enjoyed her sparrow and the bond Lesbia and the sparrow had. Which you can compared to the narrator who didn't have that same connection to the sparrow as the sparrow does with Lesbia.
